7 Top Reasons to Journal when traveling

Journaling is something I believe everyone should do on a regular basis. It has really helped me in the last year to clarify my thoughts and feelings and plan and set goals and tasks for myself. I do this daily now.

I have always journalled when I travel. Sometimes its a photobook with captions others is a travellers daily log of activities and events and the feelings. I have always looked back on these fondly with so much memory I am transported back to the sights, sounds, smells and the vibe something that cannot be justified by photos alone. Check out my handy Travel Journal to take on your next adventure. But before than let me convince you why I believe journalling is great especially when travelling.

The Magic of Journaling

So, you’ve booked your flights, packed your bags, and are ready to dive into the next great adventure. But before you head out the door, let me share a little secret that can make your travels even more magical: journaling.

Yep, that’s right! Bringing along a Travel Journal can transform your trip in ways you might not expect. Here’s 7 reasons why you should definitely consider making journaling a part of your travel routine.

Capture the Moments that Matter

Traveling is packed with once-in-a-lifetime experiences, but let’s be real—our brains aren’t always the best at remembering every single detail. By journaling, you can capture those fleeting moments, funny encounters, and breathtaking sights. Later, when you flip through your journal, it’s like you’re right back in that moment, reliving the adventure all over again.

Reflect and Appreciate

When you’re constantly on the move, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind and forget to take a step back to appreciate where you are. Journaling gives you a chance to pause, reflect, and soak it all in. It’s your time to process what you’ve seen and felt, which can make your travel experiences even more meaningful.

This especially good when solo travelling you are in tune with yourself and can while away down time with some journalling almost like having a conversation with yourself. This can be really useful to minimise overwhelm and over stimulation in new places.

A Creative Outlet

Let’s face it—travel can be exhausting. Sometimes you need a break from all the sightseeing and exploring. Journaling is a fantastic way to unwind and let your creative juices flow. Whether you’re sketching the view from your window, writing a poem about the sunset, or just doodling, it’s a wonderful way to relax and express yourself.

Personal Growth and Self-Discovery

Travel isn’t just about seeing new places; it’s also about discovering more about yourself. Through journaling, you can delve deeper into your thoughts and emotions. It’s a powerful tool for self-discovery and personal growth. You might be surprised by what you learn about yourself on the road!

Create a Personal Travel Guide

Remember that little café with the best espresso you’ve ever had? Or that hidden beach with the crystal-clear water? By jotting down these details in your journal, you’re creating a personalized travel guide. Next time you (or a friend) visit, you’ll have all the best spots right at your fingertips.

Connect with Locals

Journaling can also be a great conversation starter. Locals are often curious about travelers, and sharing your journal can be a unique way to connect. You might even get some insider tips and recommendations in return!

A Keepsake to Cherish Forever

Photos are great, but there’s something incredibly special about a handwritten journal. It’s a tangible keepsake filled with your personal experiences and emotions. Years down the line, it’ll be a treasured memento of your adventures, something to pass down to future generations. But if digital is your vibe then that works too and you may be able to find some digital templates out there or just note things on your laptop or tablet. But in my book (pardon the pun) there is nothing like pen and paper for full immersion in the memories.

Top Tips to Get Started

  • Find the Right Journal: Choose one that’s portable and suits your style. Some prefer plain notebooks, while others like ones with prompts or maps. I produced my very own Travel Journal that you can purchase. It has a handy world map you can colour in the places you have been. It’s a handy size around A5 and 200 pages. The front pages prompts you to set your travel goals and realise them in the pages that follow on your adventures. I use this myself when I travel.
  • Pack a Good Pen: Trust me, a smooth-writing pen makes all the difference. This could be something special or sentimental to add to the ambiance of journaling. Invoking all your emotions to really create an indelible memoir of your adventures.
  • Be Consistent: Try to write a little every day, even if it’s just a few lines. This is key as you lose so much detail so quickly. Focus on highlights and how you felt to really keep the memories alive. Note the funny events or happenings with your travel companions or your solo wanders.
  • Mix it Up: Combine writing with sketches, ticket stubs for an epic show, pressed flowers—whatever helps tell your story. Anything goes really. Whatever works for you. I keep maps, brochures, travel passes and even receipts sometimes. City pass discount cards are great keepsakes.

So, next time you’re gearing up for a trip, don’t forget to pack the Travel Goals Journal. It’s a small addition to your luggage, but it can make a world of difference in your travel experience. Happy journaling, and may your adventures be filled with amazing stories to tell! ✍️🌟
